About Artist

I live and work in Canberra where I have a studio at M16 Artspace. My work is figurative – whether focusing on landscapes, portraits or mixed media compositions – and has been exhibited widely both here and abroad. My main aim in all formats is to create, using collage as a starting point, a unique and persuasive world in each picture.

Recent exhibitions have included the group shows: Figurative Art Now, Mall Galleries, London (2020), The Waverley Art Prize (2021,2022), The Lethbridge 2000 Small Scale Award (2023, 2024), The National Capital Art Prize (2023, Highly Commended), The Lethbridge Landscape Prize (2024, Highly Commended), The Percival Portrait Prize (2024) and The Doyles Art Prize (2024).

I had a solo show at M16 Artspace in 2022 (‘The Night Side of Nature’) and have a forthcoming solo show at the same venue in October of this year.

Artist Statement

‘Oracle’ is one of a series of mixed media paintings I have recently produced which apply Greek myths to a contemporary situation. In this case the subject is an Oracle predicting a vistor’s fortunes.
I was drawn to the subject for two reasons: firstly as a way of comparing the classical belief that mortals’ lives were shaped by the Gods with the current power of AI to shape our futures. And also, formally, as a way of merging an ancient, supernatural figure with the modern forms of skyscrapers whose reflections lend their own mystery to the image.
