About Artist

I am a Wadjigan woman and was born at Tennant Creek in 1972. I come from Bulgul Country in the western Wagait area of the Top End (around a two and a half hour drive south west of Darwin) and my Ancestors are from saltwater Country. My language is Batjamal and my totem is the mud crab.
I have painted since 1993 and I was a finalist and people’s choice winner at the 24th NASTSIAA in 2007. I was also awarded the inaugural Margaret Olley Art Award at the 2017 Mosman Art Prize.
I want to learn all I can about culture and country from my elders.

Artist Statement

Lirrga is one of the four main ceremonial groups around the Daly River and during ceremonies like ‘ragburning’ they use songs, dances, and ochre paints. This artwork celebrates the beauty and significance of these traditions, offering a glimpse into my rich cultural heritage.
