About Artist

2022 – Finalist National Emerging Art Prize, Australia
2024 – Finalist Darcy Doyle Art Prize

Nicoletta Revis resides and paints in a 100-year-old church overlooking the Clarence River in the small rural town of Lawrence, NSW Australia.

Predominately self-taught, she undertook several beginner art classes in 2019/20 where she learnt some basic skills before opting for a more insular, hands-on and experimental approach to learning through her solo art practice…

It was through this practice she began to experience a surge of creative ‘break-throughs’ with existential learning each time she put brush to canvas.

In December of 2021 Nicoletta haphazardly tapped into her own unique style when she began painting intimate stories from her life through the ‘adventures of the girl and dog’… In 2024 other animals entered her canvas arena representational of her relationship with anthropomorphism.

Nicoletta’s work is held in various private collections within Australia.

Artist Statement

Fascinated by the human condition, this work depicts the emotional fallout experienced by a child of a single-working-mother.

Just as memory often subconsciously blurs the line between reality and make believe, so too does my subject matter… The whimsical narrative alludes to hidden stories through symbolic reference… The kangaroo; a deep desire for maternal care, the desolate landscape; loneliness, and the delicately balanced apple; a child’s emotional fragility.

Layers of rich colour painted atop a textural background create roadmaps conveying emotion, whilst the animal subjects create a sense of comfort depicting a relationship with anthropomorphism.
